Dollie Marie Smith was born September 1, 1930 in Neodosha, Kansas, near Topeka, to Theo Carl and Lela Alice Smith. Dollie married Gilbert Everette Lang on August 6, 1946 in Caldwell, Idaho. They had seven children: Charles Wayne; Raymond Earl; Jerry Donald; Richard Phillip; Donna Jean; Andrew Carl; and Steven Walter Lang. Her husband, Gil, passed away on February 7, 1985 and is buried at Littleton Cemetery in Colorado. Gil and Dollie were married for almost 38 years. Four years later, Dollie married Allen Wyatt Brooks on September 9, 1989 at Woodside Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. They were married twelve days shy of thirty years. Dollie was preceded in death by her twin sons, Charles Wayne and Raymond Earl Lang; her brother, Richard Dean Smith; her parents, Theo and Lela Smith, and stepmother, Edna Smith; her first husband, Gil Lang; her sister Nellie Pauline Graton; and one grandchild, Isaiah Joel Lang. Dollie is survived by her husband Allen Brooks of Sheridan, Wyoming; five children: Jerry Lang of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; Rick Lang of Sheridan, Colorado; Donna Metz of Sheridan, Wyoming; Andy Lang of Greenwood Village, Colorado; and Steve Lang of Wiggins, Colorado; three stepchildren: John Brooks of Denver, Colorado; Justin Brooks of Lamar, Missouri; and Heather Wall of Sidney, Montana; eleven grandchildren: Christy Gerwinat; Scott Lang; Kelly Sandford; Tim Lang; Amy Schmidt-Lang; Beverly Boyce; Elizabeth Hill; RuthAnn Everson; Rebekah Popelka; Charity Combs; and Bethany Lang; two step grandchildren: Jeremiah Brooks of Denver, Colorado; and Christianna Wall of Sidney, Montana; eight great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Lee Smith of Pennsylvania.
Dollie started her life during the beginning of the Great Depression era. It was tough going for her parents, who were out working, trying to make ends meet. Dollie became the mother-figure of the household, helping take care of her brothers and sister. She also married and started her own family at an early age, so she spent most of her younger years at home with her children. After the children grew up and were pretty much on their own, she worked for several years at 21st Century Plumbing (Moen Plumbing) as a quality control inspector. Dollie spent the majority of her adult life serving her Lord and Savior in churches in Colorado and Wyoming. For the last 28 years she served beside her husband, Al Brooks, as a ‘greeter’ at Grace Baptist Church in Sheridan, Wy. When you walked into the church, it was nice to have a friendly person greet you with warm, smiling face, saying, “Welcome. I’m so glad you’re here”. She will be greatly missed by her direct family, and her church family as well. She always displayed a bubbly, happy and helpful attitude in all that she did. You could always tell when “Dollie’s here”, by her signature giggle and laugh. If you ever saw someone racing across a room to help someone in need or just greet them, it was probably Dollie. If anyone had it, Dollie had it – the gift of help.
Dollie Marie Brooks went home to be with the Lord at about 3:30am, August 29, 2019. There she was greeted “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over may things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord”. (Matthew 25:21 KJV)
