Evelyn Irene Lien   Feb. 11, 1937 – August 18, 2020

Evelyn was born Feb. 11, 1937 in Veblen, SD to Doris (Nickeson) and Harold (HB) Lien.  She spent her childhood years in Veblen.  The family moved to Valley City, ND in 1950.  Her father passed away in 1954 and her mother moved to Billings, MT.  She graduated from Valley City High School in 1955 and then followed her mother to Billings, MT.  She attended Billings Business College and was employed as a bookkeeper for 7-UP Bottling Company of Billings.  Later she attended Beauty School and purchased a Beauty Salon.

After several years, she migrated to Palo Alto, CA where she went to work for Fairchild Semiconductor Research and Development Division where she was trained as a Metallographer.  In 1972, she was hired by National Semiconductor as the first woman engineer in a company of 35,000 employees.  She worked for several large companies in the Silicon Valley over a 35 year career before retiring and moving to Sheridan, WY.

She always had a houseful of pets and friends, but she especially loved her little dog, Muff.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles, loved to bake and was an exceptional cook.  She spent much time on her computer where she made cards for her friends and family, restored old photos, printed books, created posters and ads for her friend’s events.

Evelyn is survived by her nieces: Bev (Jeff) Muehlberg of Battlelake, MN and Jacki Hochhalter of Bismarck, ND; her Dear Friend, Sherry Eagles of Sheridan, WY and numerous cousins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Harold Lien, her nephews: Keith and Steven Fenske and her beloved dog, Muff.

At her request cremation will take place and interment of the cremains will be in the Lien family plot in Veblen, SD Cemetery.
