Maxie Lynette (Miller) Heagy was taken by her angels on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 to be with the Lord in Heaven. She passed peacefully in her sleep in her Assisted Living Apartment in Surprise, AZ surrounded by family and friends. She was born on March 29, 1934 in Sheridan, WY to George Richard and Melba Katherine (Coop) Miller.
Many years ago, Maxie worked at Sheridan Junior College as the secretary to 4 different Presidents. She then worked for Attorney Bob Holstedt and eventually retired from the State of Wyoming. During her working years, she made many of friends in the Sheridan area and seemed to always know someone, no matter where she visited. After working so many years, she LOVED BEING RETIRED!
Maxie loved playing all card games and the weekly bridge club outings, especially with her friends in Wyoming. Bingo and a few one arm bandits, occasionally held her hostage. She always held her own in the family poker games and was sometimes caught saying “15-2, 15-4 and a pair for 6” or playing some chicken foot or Mexican Train as some call it.
Maxie was a member of the Sheridan Elks Club and remained an honorary member of the Kalif Temple after the death of her husband, Jim. She was also an avid worshiper at The First Christian Church in Sheridan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melba and George, and by her loving husband, Jimmy Lee Heagy. Maxie is survived by her two sons, Michael (Avanelle) Heagy of Surprise, AZ and Gary (Lana) Heagy of San Mateo, CA; her brother, Richard Miller of Thermopolis, WY; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren of Surprise, AZ, San Mateo Ca, Anaheim, Ca and San Antonio, Tx.
A visitation will be held from 3 pm – 6 pm Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Champion Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the First Christian Church, 102 S. Connor St., in Sheridan with Pastor Doug Goodwin officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Maxie will then be laid to rest next to husband Jim, in the Elks Cemetery in Sheridan.
In lieu of flowers/gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 102 S. Connor St., Sheridan, WY 82801. Online condolences may be written at www.champonfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Champion Funeral Home.
