Albert Edward Hoffman passed away on February 21, 2014 at Westview Health Care Center.
He was born of Albert Edward Hoffman and Birdie Delia (Carroll) Hoffman on January 15, 1925 in Omaha Nebraska. One of two children, his sister, Loretta, was born on 1921. His Grandmother Hoffman was born in Vienna and his Grandfather Hoffman in Hamburg.
His father was employed by the Railway Express Agency. In 1927, he was transferred to Thermopolis, Wyoming as agent. He died at age forty-seven on January 16, 1943. His mother passed on in Thermopolis, Wyoming July 15, 1986.
Albert lived most of his life in the town of Thermopolis with the exceptions for three years in the U.S. Navy and his first two years in Omaha. In 2005 he moved to Sheridan Wyoming where he lived until his passing.
In the navy, Albert had three months boot training, four months school and two-and-a half years aboard CVE-82 USS Saginaw Bay, a small aircraft carrier. The greater part of his duty was in the South Pacific. He was aboard CVE-82 from the date of commission in Vancouver, Washington until decommissioning in Boston, at which time he was discharged and returned to Thermopolis in May, 1946.
He worked for Empire State Oil Company, a small independent producer and refiner of petroleum. On January 2, 1952, he started a public accounting practice which was his primary livelihood until retirement and sale of his practice in October of 1985.
Soon after returning to Thermopolis from the navy, a friend bet Albert that he couldn't get a date with his old girlfriend, Mildred. Albert won the bet and married Mildred soon afterward. They were married for sixty-eight years before her passing on April 22, 2013. They had three children – Alice Hoffman of San Diego California, Kevin Hoffman of Portland Oregon, and Edward Hoffman of Sheridan. They have two grandchildren – Erin Foote of Sheridan, Wyoming and Kristen Hoffman of Richmond Virginia. They also have two great-grandchildren – Hailey and Carson Foote.
Albert was an avid bird hunter and fisherman spending the majority of his leisure time out of doors. He also enjoyed travel with Mildred going to places of interest including Mexico, Europe, Asia, United Kingdom, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii.
His family plans to have a memorial service for him in May or June. They will be inviting family and friends to join them after a date and location have been decided.
