Ardith Nadine Matteson, 82, of Sheridan, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Sheridan Manor. She was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Gillette to Everett and Emily Allen. She was raised in Sheridan where she attended school and worked at the Sheridan Sanidairy Creamery. Nadine met Leslie C. Matteson of Buffalo and married June 2, 1951.

Leslie was working for Mountain Bell Telephone in construction and the couple traveled the state with Leslie’s job until they settled in Buffalo. Leslie and Nadine had four children with one dying in infancy. Their children were raised in Buffalo. Nadine was a stay-at-home mom until all three children were in school.

Nadine worked briefly at Safeway as a checker and at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in food services. She then settled at the New York Store in 1970 as a sales person. She eventually rose to the status of buyer for the ladies ready-to-wear department.

Lelsie and Nadine retired together in 1986. Nadine was a member of the Amie Holt Auxiliary and volunteered at The Happy Apple gift shop from 1987 to 2007. She was also active in the Lutheran Woman’s group at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. This included helping with the children’s Christmas shop.

Leslie Matteson passed away in July 2008 after 57 years of marriage. Following his death, Nadine spent the winter months in Sheridan with her daughter. In October 2013, Nadine moved to Sheridan permanently due to health issues. She remained with her daughter until she was briefly hospitalized for an acute illness that exacerbated other health issues. This was followed by a short stay at Sheridan Manor where Nadine passed away on April 21, 2016.

Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Emily Allen; her husband, Leslie C. Matteson; an infant daughter, Verline Jean Matteson; a son, Michael Eugene Matteson of Gillette; and two brothers-in-law, Verl Matteson of Buffalo and Frederick Taylor of Sheridan.

Ardith Nadine is survived by her sister, Naomi Taylor of Sheridan; son, Everett; daughter, Terrill Matteson; a life friend, Debbie Matteson, all of Sheridan; and a niece, Sharon and Paul Redden of New Mexico. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, James (Jaime) Galloway, Kenneth Matteson, Ryan (Liberty) Matteson, all of Sheridan, and Steve Matteson of Billings, Montana, Brendan Matteson, Erin (Nathan) Matteson Matte, Krista Matteson and her partner Matt Pagel, Brittany Matteson and her partner Gabrial Speiring, all of Gillette; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo. Memorials may be made to Life Line of Buffalo or the Dog and Cat Shelter in Sheridan. Nadine will be laid to rest with Leslie at the Sheridan Cemetery.
