Charles V. Holtry

Charles Vernon Holtry, 91, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Friday, November 8, 2013 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.

Mr. Holtry was born October 23, 1922 in Howe, Idaho to Bemridge and Jette Camilla (Wilde) Franklin. The family moved to Boulder City, Nevada when Vernon was around 12. He lived in Dayton, Washington, then moved to Sheridan, Wyoming.

Vernon was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre and Africa. He married Charlotte Belle Adsit March 12, 1947 in Dayton, Washington.

Mr. Holtry worked at various jobs to support his family including working on construction of the Hoover Dam, logging in Washington, the railroad, the Jersey Creamery, driving a school bus, and going to work at the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center where he was the lead engineer in the boiler plant.

Vernon was a loving father and grandfather, and was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Terry Lynn and Wade Holtry; and one brother, Bemridge Holtry, Jr.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Sheridan, Wyoming; two sons, Franklin (Doreen) Holtry, of Broomfield, Colorado, and Ronald Holtry, of Kent, Washington; one daughter, Suzanne (Roger) Vanderslice, of Pueblo, Colorado; four sisters, Fern, Carmen, June, and Viola; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral service for Vernon will be 1:00 P. M. Thursday, November 14, 2013 the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2051 Colonial Drive, Sheridan with Bishop Roger Brinkerhoff officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
