Elmer Jay Barton, 83, of Sheridan, Wyoming, died Monday, August 12, 2013 in the Sheridan V. A. Medical Center.
Mr. Barton was born April 7, 1930 in Buffalo, Wyoming to Fred W. and Mamie Theresa (Odegard) Barton. He grew up and attended the Grinder school on Upper Powder River, the Barton school on Indian Creek, and school on the North Fork of Wild Horse Creek, graduating from Arvada High School in 1948. Elmer then attended Aeronautical School in California for two years from 1948 through 1950.
Mr. Barton joined the Air Force in 1951 and served in Idaho, Virginia, Alaska, Condon, Oregon and was honorably discharged in 1955.
He married Jeannette Ann Grubb September 2, 1956 in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Elmer was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying, going to casinos, fishing, tinkering, loved talking to people, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie, in 1973, and Fred, in 1991, and his wife of 53 years, Jeannette Ann Barton, in 2009.
He is survived by one son, Fred Michael Barton, of Sheridan, Wyoming; one daughter, Lynne Barton Fulfs, (Duane), of Republic, Washington; six grandchildren, Morgen Chase, of Sheridan, Wyoming, Austin Barton, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Toby Walberg, of Boulder, Colorado, Amy (Barton) Herring, of Sheridan, Wyoming, Tucker Chase, of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Drew Chase, of Boulder, Colorado; and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral service for Mr. Barton will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
