The family moved from Gering to Mitchell, then to Marsland, before settling in Morrill where he graduated from high school in 1957. Following high school, he worked construction then attended Chadron State College earning a Master’s Degree in Education and Administration.
He began his teaching career with 1st grade in Glendo, and moved into administration at Kaycee, Big Horn, Huntley and ending his career in Mountain View. He also kept busy teaching hunter safety classes and working as a Water Commissioner.
It was while he was the superintendent at Huntley that he met Dorothy Weigel whom he married on April 13, 1974. They spent many years square dancing and traveling during the summers. Farren’s life was changed when his family included a daughter, Greta and a son, Christian. He spent many hours with his children, teaching them how to work and play and the rewards of doing for others. Whether it was on the ride to school or cutting and splitting firewood, he was there to listen.
Farren was a 4-H member, belonged to Lions club, and was a Gideon and supported Ducks Unlimited. He continued his education through the WY Vocational Association. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served in positions in his local church as well as the Presbytery of WY.
His father taught him to play cribbage during the blizzard of 49, and he continued to enjoy the game, even on his last day. Other enjoyments included woodworking, chainsaw carving, hunting, fishing, wine making, gardening cooking, fly tying and photography. He collected political buttons and raised and showed Shetland sheepdogs. We could find him at the Sr. Center playing pool after his retirement or enjoying a cup of coffee with friends.
