Florence K. Troutman
About:
Florence “Kay” Troutman, 87, of Sheridan, passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at home surrounded by her family.
Kay was born in Kimberly, Idaho, to Orlo Clair and Jessie Irene McEwen. Her early years were spent on several farms in the Hanson, Idaho, area as her father was a tenant farmer. She later graduated from Kimberly High. Following high school, she helped care for her six younger siblings as well as working on local farms. Ironically, through her pen pal and future sister-in law Betty Porter, she met and later married her husband, Jess Troutman. Following her marriage to Jess in the home of her parents, they moved to the Troutman family ranch near Story where they raised their five children.
Kay raised a huge garden each year to feed her family. She was a master at canning. In her spare time, she loved to quilt, make sock dolls, fruit cakes at Christmas and peanut butter Easter eggs, which she gave to family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the challenge of word search puzzles. Over the years she amassed an impressive collection of salt and pepper shakers from all over the world.
As their health began to fail, they moved off the family ranch at Story and moved to Sheridan where they lived out their lives together. They were married for nearly 55 years.
Kay touched the lives of many people with her ready smile and kind heart.
Preceding her in death were her husband (Jess), son (James), her parents, grandparents, two brothers and one sister. Surviving her are three daughters, Betty Seely of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Susan Puliafico (Mike) of Billings, Montana, Donna Richards (Les) of Sheridan; and two sons, John Troutman (Heidi) Marienthal, Kansas, and Jesse “Charlie” Troutman (Bobbi) of Buffalo; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald McEwen of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Gary McEwen (Beverly) of Kimberly, ID; and two sisters, Joy Bell (Preston) of Kimberly, Idaho, and Lynn Smith (David) of Burley, Idaho.
