Ida Mae Heaton passed away at the age of 97 in Lehi, Utah, on April 22, 2016, in the company of family. Ida Mae was born January 10, 1919, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Joseph Edward Driear and Mabel Hope Powers.

She spent her youth and young adulthood on ranches in the Sheridan, Arvada, and Clearmont areas. She attended schools in Clearmont and Sheridan. Except for a short time in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to support her husband during WWII, Ida Mae spent her entire life in the Sheridan area until her declining health required her to move to Utah and closer to family.

Ida Mae worked in the Radiology Department at Sheridan Memorial. Later, she served many years as the teacher’s aide in the language lab at Sheridan High School.

Ida Mae married the love of her life, Glenn Russell Heaton on July 29, 1942, in Hardin, Montana. They had two sons, Gerald Edward Heaton and Wayne Russell Heaton.

Ida Mae could find no place better than the outdoors. She stated she would ride any horse, but loved her Morgan horse, Apple Jack. She took great pride in her flowers stating that red roses were her favorite flowers although she had wonderful patience with gladiolas and decidedly did not like “flags” (iris). When not outside she enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a wonderful cook.

Visiting her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her great joy as she was able to share in their lives and, in turn, they got to enjoy her wisdom and stories.

Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved spouse, Glenn Russell Heaton, and her son, Gerald Edward Heaton. She is survived by one son, Wayne Russell Heaton (Rose Cita) of Heber City, UT, and a daughter-in-law, Francis Heaton of Mission Viejo, CA. She lovingly claimed seven grandchildren; Diana Guiol (Greg) of Dana Point, CA; Lisa McKeown (Jeff) of Mission Viejo, CA; Jennifer Wilburn (Robert), Evanston, WY; Andra Bruce (Matthew), Sandy, UT; Charles Heaton (Angela), Cottonwood Heights, UT; John Heaton (Rachel), Oklahoma City, OK; and David Heaton, Taylorsville, UT. Her legacy includes eighteen great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday evening April 27, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street, Lehi, Utah.

A memorial service will be held at Champions Funeral Home May 5, 2016 at 10 am. A private grave side service will follow with interment in the Sheridan County Municipal Cemetery.
