Janice M. Adsit

About:

Janice Marie Adsit was a mother, a woman, a wife, a lover, a friend, a fighter and a creator. She was a free spirit and she lived with joy, bravery and overwhelming love.

Janice was born Sept. 4, 1959. She grew up in Sheridan in a little blue house beneath the Big Horn Mountains with her parents, brother and sister. She had a horse named Blue Boy, which she loved deeply. When she was 17, she struck out on her own and learned to navigate the world as a woman.

She loved to learn and create. She was a talented writer and editor. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in general writing from the University of Colorado Denver and worked in public relations before she raised her daughters, the loves of her life, Devon and Brittany.

Janice was fiercely loyal and advocated for those she loved no matter the cost to her. She was outrageously fun and funny as hell. She could make you laugh until tears flowed and you split at the sides.

She persevered through unspeakable pain with grace and held onto her inherent joy every single day.

She believed in her own soul and her own spirit, and she believed in something larger than herself. She thrived on her unconditional and overflowing love for those closest to her. She was a gift. She is an angel that gave us everything she had to give and more, and she will live on in us endlessly.

She passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016.

She is survived by her daughters, Devon Boen and Brittany Leach; her first grandchild, Carter Scott Leach; her parents, Jack and Viola Adsit; her brother, Jack Adsit Jr. and his wife Karen; her nephews, “Punk” Albert Rood, Chad Adsit and Darrell Adsit; her niece, Jenny Mitchell; and her boyfriend, Kelly McKim.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Darrell, Jeanette, Raymond and Bernice.

A memorial service is from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Hall in Gillette. The family will hold a private viewing and a private funeral in Janice’s hometown of Sheridan.
