Jerald Michael, passed into eternal life to dwell with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with the love of his life Phyllis Cole Honeycutt on April 8, 2016. Funeral/Celebration of his life will be at St Michael's Episcopal Church, Wayne, NJ, June 18, 2016 at 10 AM. A committal ceremony will be held after the service at St. Michael's Memorial Garden, Please join us for a Memorial/Remembrance gathering in the Parish hall following the ceremony.
Jerry was born May 24, 1931 the only child of Edith Reed Honeycutt and Chester Robert Honeycutt. Jerald completed his BS in Chemistry at Tulane University. Jerald was a scholar, and athlete. He was a member of the boxing team, The Glendy Burke Literary and Debating society, and the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. Jerald was inducted into the Tulane Hall of Fame in 1955.
Jerald earned a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Texas Jerry met Phyllis Jean Cole at UT. Jerry and Phyllis married in 1955. They moved with their family to Wayne where Jerald worked at American Cyanamid. Jerald's next career was as Professor of Chemistry at William Paterson University. He continued this job until he became full time caregiver for his wife.
Jerald had many interests and hobbies. He was a numismatic, and philatelist and avid reader. Jerry and Phyllis also enjoyed estate sales.
Jerry and Phyllis were members of St Michael's Episcopal church. Jerry served as warden, lay reader, and chalice bearer. Jerry was one of the originators of Sign of the Fish. Jerry was a member of the drama group at St. Michael's Church. He wrote and performed in many plays.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Phyllis Cole Honeycutt, grandson, Thomas Michael Spagnolia, son-in-law, Dr. Thomas Spagnolia. He is survived by his children, three daughters and one son, Dr. Darcy Honeycutt MD, husband, Dr. Thomas Spagnolia, deceased, grandchildren Alessandra Spagnolia and Christopher Spagnolia, Allison H. Cole, husband Richard, and grandchildren Janelle Cole, Gareth Cole, great-grandchildren, Evan and Callie Cole, Stephanie Howard, and great-grandchildren Clementine and Madeleine Moy Ballesta, Stacy Honeycutt, and son, Todd Honeycutt, and grandson Christopher Todd Honeycutt.
Jerry was a survivor of prostate cancer.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Jerald Honeycutt's memory to the Prostate Cancer foundation. You are gone to eternal life but not forgotten.
