Paul M. Rieger

About:

Paul Montague Rieger went to see our Lord on Monday, April 29, 2013 peacefully in his sleep at home in Sheridan, WY.  He was 76 years old.

Paul was born to George and Blanche Rieger in Falls City, Nebraska on June 9, 1936.  Young Paul grew up with five sisters and he learned to fend for himself early. Paul had a passion for horses and loved his cars. He was an accomplished steer wrestler (bull dogger) and rode bare back while living in western Nebraska and Kansas. Paul married the love of his life, Veronica Marie Darveau at Falls City, Nebraska on June 20, 1959.

Paul worked at the Nebraska State Reformatory from 1958 to 1961 as Lieutenant of Guards. Then from 1961 to 1962 he was a deputy Sheriff in Richardson County, Nebraska. Paul then went to work for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad as an Assistant Special Agent. In 1970, Paul took a promotion that led him and his family to Sheridan, Wyoming as a Special Agent in the Yellowstone Division. He retired from the railroad in 1983. Paul and Veronica then took the job of managers of West Park Mobile Home Court, employed by Don Roberts in 1989. He retired in 2006.

Dad was a self taught carpenter and was a very skilled fabricator and he has probably built more sheds than anyone around here. He loved his hobbies and one of them, dancing with the love of his life, Veronica, he did to the end. Dad’s whole life revolved around his life partner and soul mate.

His quick wit and sharp sense of humor will be missed dearly. He loved to make people laugh and anyone that knew dad knew exactly where they stood with him. Dad loved people and cherished his sons and daughter. Dad never met a stranger.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, father, his sisters Georgia, Esther, Rosalie and Jane.

Paul is survived by his wife Veronica, sons Paul (Cheryl) of Gillette and Steve (Loni) Rieger of Sheridan; daughter Angel (Pierson) Caudill of Carlsbad N.M; sister Nancy (Ed) Boehme; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Friday (May 3rd) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Ryan Koltiska officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials may benefit the Volunteers of American, 1876 S. Sheridan Ave., Sheridan, WY  82801.
