A memorial service for Gregory Allen Smith, 50, of Sheridan, Wyo., will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the New Life Wesleyan Church, 1000 Commanche Ave. in Gillette, Wyo., with Pastor Wesley Smith officiating.  

Gregory went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2011 in Sheridan. Funeral services were held Monday, May 9 at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Ohio with Pastor Randy Henderson officiating. Burial was at the Getaway Cemetery, Getaway, Ohio.

He was born March 3, 1961 in Huntington, W. Va., the son of James T. Smith Jr. and Bonnie Tackett Smith. Gregory was a graduate of Marshall University and an employee of Marathon Oil in Sheridan as an environmental projects manager and was registered as a professional geologist. He was active in his church and had a passion for music, especially playing his saxophone. He was also an avid fly-fisherman and loved being in the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Aberle Smith; three daughters, Jamie Huffman Jones of Princeton, W. Va., Jordan Marie Smith and Jamie Lea Smith; two sons, Jonathan Gregory Smith and Joshua Keeney Smith all of Gillette; two stepsons, Chris Collins and Lance Collins; two grandchildren, Adam Landry and Dylan Clay Jones; brother, David Aaron Smith and his wife Tammy of Chesapeake; two sisters, Kelly Smith Brock and her husband Perry Brock of South Point and Geana Pike Pannell and her husband John of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Gregory was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James T. Smith Sr. and Helen Keeney Smith and his maternal grandparents, Rondle Lewis Tackett of Ravenswood, W. Va. and Marcella Marcum King of Proctorville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
