Henry Lincoln Arnoux

About:

Henry Lincoln Arnoux, 90, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Sheridan Manor. Services were held Saturday, June 27. Internment is at Mount Hope Cemetery, Big Horn, Wyo.

Born in Browning, Feb. 13, 1919, to Monroe Arnoux, he was a proud member of the Blackfeet Nation and was the great grandson of Blood Chief Red Crow.

He married Opal A. Park on April 4, 1946, and they moved to Elk City, Okla. After their second and third children, they moved to Rawlins, Wyo., where they both worked at Carbon County Memorial Hospital. In 1952 they moved to Big Horn, and raised their three children. Henry was an x-ray technician at Memorial Hospital for 20 years and was the proprietor of the White Swan Barber Shop on Main Street in Sheridan.

He was a member and active in the Masonic Lodge, Shrine and the Elks BPOE 520. In the past, he was also a member of the Big Horn Lions Club, Big Horn School Board, Sheridan County Red Cross member and trainer for first aid, and Sheridan County emergency medical tech, responsible for forming the first radiological society in Wyoming. He served as president for many years.

Henry and Opal started the first-ever mobile x-ray unit which traveled in Montana during the 1940s, serving communities, reservations and prisons. The "Chief" selflessly provided haircuts at nursing homes and the hospital for those folks that were immobile, as well as for shut-ins.

Henry was an avid fisherman, hunter, artist (oil and watercolor), rockhound and thrived on continuing his education through voluminous reading. He played a variety of instruments - tenor sax, clarinet, trumpet, guitar, piano and banjo. He was a member of the Rhythm Chiefs big band in the late 1930s that traveled Montana, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington.

Henry is survived by his wife, Opal Sheridan; sons Jim (Gwen) of Oregon and John (Colleen) of Oklahoma; and Judy Sheridan; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
