Lyla "Honey" Marie Stout

About:

Lyla M. “Honey” Dunsdon Stout went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2024.  She was born  December 7th 1936 in Tabor, Iowa.  Her parents and she moved to Sheridan County when she was in 3rd grade where she attended Ranchester Schools. For all her accomplishments and learning the multiplication table, she got a new blue single speed ladies bike from her parents.

She married Robert (Bob) Stout in 1954 and this union had four children;  Dorcas, Robin, Jodene, and a daughter Anita who preceded her in death.  Lyla was an amazing woman known for her love of family, children and being organized.  She was also known for being a very hard worker, very forgiving, loving, caring, nurturing, kind and she possessed a smile that was unforgettable.

Lyla received her nickname of “Honey” from her first grandchild.  Bob was always calling her Honey, and her granddaughter started calling her Honey too.  The name stuck. Everyone calls her Honey.  What better name for such a sweet, loving, caring, and kind woman who would do anything for you.

During her time here she touched the lives of many young people.  She taught Sunday School, pre-school in the Old Ranchester Hotel, was active with 4-H, and drove the contract school bus route up to Burgess Junction in the Big Horn Mountain for thirteen (13) years.  She also served as a private caregiver to local residents for a number of years

Among her many interests, she was quite a seamstress capable of sewing anything from children’s clothing to wedding dresses, formals, and cheerleading uniforms. She sewed up many beautiful quilts for family, friends, and even donated numerous quilts to Children’s Hospital and cancer patients.  She was quite adept with a crochet hook and knitting needles as well.  Carpentry tools fit her hands and she proved to be quite handy with them also as Bob and her built 3 homes.

She and Bob provided contract haying services to the local area ranchers for a number of years.  She  operated the swather.  They later also provided professional janitorial services to several Sheridan businesses during their retirement years.

Lyla is survived by her husband Robert A. (“Bob”) Stout, two daughters, Dorcas M. Stout Palone (Bill Palone), Jodene K. “Jo” Stout Prusak (Robert E. Prusak), one son Robin A. “Rob” Stout, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Lyla was preceded in death by a daughter Anita Stout, and her parents Lyle and Velma Dundson.

Per her request cremation has taken place and no services will be held.  Private scattering of cremains will be at a later date in the Big Horn Mountains.  Lyla has requested no flowers but did wish  that donations be made on her behalf to the Kalif Shrine Children’s Travel Fund c/o Rick Badgett; P.O. Box K, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801.

Lyla’s family wish to thank Sheridan Memorial Hospital Hospice for all their love and support.
