Martha Helen Mellgren, 76, of Sheridan, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital. She was born August 15, 1942 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Richard and Minnette Becker.
Martha married Michael Albert Mellgren on October 31, 1964 in Libertyville, Illinois. She worked as a Special Education Educator, Librarian, Elementary Education Teacher, Mentor and at RENEW.
She enjoyed traveling, which included covering all 50 states, Canadian Provinces, and 6 of 7 continents (30 countries), with most of the travel occurring since 2002. Martha and Mike enjoyed over 20 cruises, particularly the Mississippi River Cruise last summer. They hosted more than 5 foreign exchange students and still visit annually with one of the families. She and Mike were also foster parents. Martha loved chocolate, puzzles and animals of all sizes. She and Mike have been members of Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Michael of Sheridan, Wyoming; daughters, Sara Mellgren of Moreno Valley, California, Caryn (PJ) Johnson of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Leslie Mellgren of Billings, Montana; five grandchildren, Connor Arnold, Madison Arnold, Mikael, Mackenzie, and Rory Armstrong.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 Crescent Dr., with Pastor Phil Wold officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sheridan Senior Center, 211 Smith St., Sheridan, WY 82801 or the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 E. Ridge Rd., Sheridan, WY 82801.
